CALERA – There were three run-rule blowouts out of six total games at the Calera Softball Tournament on Thursday. In those three games, the winners combined for a total final of 52-1.
The host Lady Bulldogs sent Haworth to the wrong end of the bracket with a 23-0 win in three innings. Caney wasn’t much nicer to Achille in a 20-1 rout, and Turner blasted Caddo in a quick 9-0 game.
In a scoring oddity, Calera only put up “ones” on the three-inning scorecard: 11 in the first, one in the second and another 11 in the third.
Everyone in the Calera lineup contributed in the tournament-opening win over the visiting Lady Lions.
Taylor Pickett got the pitching start, as well as three hits and three RBIs. She and Madi Robinson combined in the pitcher’s circle, and Madi also had a single, a stolen base and three runs scored.
Ashlyn Cooper had a single, a stolen base and two RBIs; Miranda Collett had two singles, two RBIs and a steal; Ramona Vasquez had a single and three RBIs; Raylee Rogers hit a two-RBI single; Ricki Harper had two singles and a stolen base; Delaney Rogers had two hits, and RBI and a steal; and Baileigh McGuinness had a two-RBI single.
