DURANT — Choctaw Nation’s monthly event, Heritage Monday, is well under way and Lorene Blaine, District 9 Outstanding Elder 2008, has dedicated her time to teach Choctaw Nation employees the art of traditional beadwork. Lorene has set up shop in the Public Relations office of the Tribal Headquarters, willing to share her expertise with anyone who would like to try their hand at the age-old art form.

“Beading is a great way to keep our heritage alive,” said Blaine. Heritage Monday, which takes place the first Monday of every month, has been a tradition around the Choctaw Headquarters for several months now, and it has been a success thus far. Keeping the heritage alive is an important goal for the Choctaw Nation, and Heritage Monday promises to be a constant stepping-stone on the road towards such goal.
