Two people have been charged with child abuse, following an investigation by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office that they assaulted a 15-year-old girl.

Charged Friday with child abuse by injury were Cindy Lena McIntire, 49, and Nathan Dale Stephens, 51, both of Bennington. According to court papers, McIntire is accused of striking the girl several times in the face on June 8, and Stephens is accused of hitting and choking the girl.

An affidavit states that McIntire punched the girl several times during the face while they were arguing, and later, Stephens slapped the girl in the face and then grabbed her by the throat. The girl called a relative after the alleged incidents, who then took her to the emergency room for treatment.

Warrants were issued for their arrests, and according to the affidavit, Stephens is currently a fugitive who has a felony warrant from Choctaw County.

In other crimes, a $1,500 kayak owned by Bo McIlvoy was stolen from a private boat dock in the 400 block of West Sandpoint Road, according to a report last week by Sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Bannowsky. The victim said the door had been pried open. A fishing rod worth $110 was also stolen.

A purse owned by Terri Carbaugh was stolen from her car while parked at Victory Life Campgrounds in Cartwright, according to a report last week by Deputy John Ray Haislip. Entry to the vehicle was gained by breaking the driver-side window, and the purse was later recovered by the Sherman Police Department.
