Durant Fire Department has been busy fighting at least one grass fire per day on top of their other emergency calls.
On Saturday, a small grass fire was reported at 4:49 p.m. at Bryan Road and Folsom Road. DFD crews used a quarter of a tank of water to douse the blaze which was on the road right of way.
On Sunday, a truck pulling a vehicle with a missing tire threw sparks and caused “three to four fires along the road” on East Main Street. The fires occurred around 5:48 p.m. mbetween McLean and Sawmill roads in east Durant.
Four DFD units responded to extinguish multiple blazes on the roadside and in a field.
After 6 p.m. Monday, two DFD units responded to a gass fire alongside a railroad track in the 500 block of Cemetery Road.
None of the blazes damaged any structures. Brayn County, along with the rest of Oklahoam, remains under a full ban on outdoor burning due to ongoing drought conditions.
