A woman shot and killed a man during a domestic dispute at a residence off Highway 69/75 south of Calera, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were dispatched at 7:46 p.m. Tuesday to 6365 S. Highway 69/75 after receiving a call that a woman shot her husband with a shotgun.
The man, identified as Steve Weger, 58, died at the scene after being shot in the abdomen by Cathy Weger, 50, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to Bryan County Undersheriff Ken Golden, no arrests were made, and the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between the couple. He said they had been divorced but had gotten back together. Golden said the shooting appeared to be justified and her story was corroborated, although the district attorney will be the one to make that determination.
Sheriff Bill Sturch said there had been a dispute and that when Mr. Weger left the residence, Mrs. Weger became scared and retrieved a shotgun, and when Mr. Weger returned to the residence, she shot him.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist in the investigation and an examiner with the State Medical Examiner’s Office also came to the scene.
Sturch said the investigation is continuing and that once it is completed, a report will be turned over to the district attorney’s office to determine if charges should be filed.
