COLBERT — The Colbert Lady Leopards turned in a dominating performance on Tuesday afternoon with a 12-0 victory over the Achille Lady Eagles. The Lady Leopards scored early and often with five runs coming in the first inning and seven runs in the second.
Starting pitcher Breawna McCraw also looked sharp in the win. McCraw struck out five batters and didn’t give up a hit in 3.0 innings of work for the Lady Leopards.
“I thought we did a good job of staying focused on our strengths,” said Colbert head coach Damon Lewis. “We were patient at the plate and stayed in our hitting zone.”
After retiring the side in order in the top of the first, McCraw helped her own cause with a leadoff inside-the-park home run. Hailey McGowan and Samantha Cummins followed with a pair of RBI triples to put the Lady Leopards up 4-0.
Cummins scored from third on a sacrifice grounder for the fifth Colbert run of the inning.
The Lady Leopards continued to roll in the bottom of the second with RBIs from Guajardo, McGowan, Cummins, and Kali Knickle. With the bases juiced, Makayla Pierce knocked in two more runs with an RBI double to make it 12-0.
McCraw sealed the deal in the top of the third with a 1-2-3 inning.
McGowan went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs. Guajardo went 2-for-2 with one RBI. McCraw went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Pierce went 1-for-2 and finished with two RBIs.
