CADDO -The Lady Bruins are 1-2 this week after a run-in with red-hot Colbert and a close shave against Caney.

On Monday, Colbert blanked Caddo 8-0 and 14-0 in a doubleheader. Breawna McCraw won both games for the Lady Leopards, while Tobi Miller and Kali Whisenhunt each took losses for the Lady Bruins.

Colbert benefited from hits by Guajardo and J. Weger, while McCraw and Pierce scored two runs each in the first game. The Lady Leopards put up 11 first-inning runs in game two, with McCraw and Pierce scoring three runs each.

Colbert followed the twin wins on Tuesday by defeating Achille 12-0, giving them a 34-0 tally in three wins so far this week. The 13th-ranked Lady Leopards (2A) host Calera on Thursday.

Caddo dusted off Tuesday and took out their frustration by running ahead of Caney 16-1 in the early innings. Facing a run-rule shortened game, the Lady Cougars had other plans.

“We were up 16-1, then Caney scored 15 runs in the fourth,” said Caddo Coach Jason Truett.

The Lady Bruins added a pair of badly needed insurance runs in the sixth to go ahead 18-16, and Caney rallied but fell short for the 18-17 final in favor of Caddo.

Tobi Miller earned a pitching victory; Ricki Braziell scored three runs and Allison Joines scored two.

Caddo will finish this week on Thursday at Bennington (4 p.m. start). Next week, the Lady Bruins participate in a three-team mini-festival at Atoka on Tuesday before hosting Achille on Aug. 30.
