Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s 2012 Homecoming celebration is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-29.
If it’s homecoming, it must be Whang Bang.
For the uninitiated, if there are any, the Whang Bang is the world’s most-fun golf tournament. The field includes past, present and former Southeastern athletes, coaches and fans.
It’s also a kind of self-defense outing since anyone not there will be the subject of intense gossip, factual and otherwise.
Registration fee is $75 per player and includes green fee, cart, goodie bag, breakfast and lunch, beverages and opportunities to win various contests.
A hole-in-one can win a new car from Stuteville Ford of Atoka. Prizes are also available for men and women winners of Closest-to-the-Pin and Longest Drive contests
Individual trophies will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners.
Individual mulligans are available for $10 each and purchasers are entered into a drawing for door prizes.
The Savage Storm Golf & More Fun Package is priced at $25 and includes two mulligans and a card game on the course.
The winner of the card game will receive a 2-night stay at Choctaw Inn & Resort.
The Whang Bang is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start Friday, Sept. 28, at Silverado Golf Course. Registration opens at 8 a.m.
Golfers may register on line at alumni.SE.edu with an early registration deadline of Sept. 14. For more information, phone the alumni office at 580-745-2875.
Hole sponsorships are available at $50.
You probably have never and will never have this much fun on a golf course. You can also consider it a good deed since all proceeds make life easier for students at Southeastern.
Registration is limited. Sign up early.
The Whang Bang golf tournament is the warm-up event for the big day of homecoming. All kinds of activities are scheduled and everyone should find something to enjoy.
A “new” tradition appears well on the way to becoming an old tradition. It involves perhaps the most popular participant sport in the world.
Eating.
Southeastern’s Alumni Association president, Mark Webb, spearheaded the tailgating event in Alumni Alley across from the football field. Requirements are few. Bring yourself and your friends. Bring your grill or picnic lunch. Eat everything you bring. Mooch stuff off others. Tell stories about the good old days.
Kick back, relax and enjoy (required). Greet the football players on The Walk to the field. Give special plays to the coaches. Help as much as you can.
It’s Southeastern. It’s Homecoming. It’s special and you should be a part of it.
