BOSWELL - The Colbert Leopards continued their win streak Monday after a strong performance over the weekend in Roff.

Colbert defeated Boswell 8-0 on Monday, in a game which featured impressive spurts of defense on both sides. But the Leopard bats simply proved to be too much for Boswell.

Peyton Whitehead went five-plus innings for the Leopards, while freshman Chris Roberts came in to close the game. Tracy Brown took the loss for Boswell.

“(Peyton) gave up a couple of hits to start the sixth, but he threw strikes and only walked one,” said Colbert Coach Lance Britt. “They put the ball in play but the defense was good behind him.”

The Leopards turned a pair of double plays in the game. Third baseman Dakota Graham scooped up three grounders in the fourth to play a hand in all three outs.

On offense, Preston Rice (2-for-3) had a double and two RBIs; Dakota Graham (2-4) had a double and an RBI; Bradley Nichols (2-4) had a double. Peyton Whitehead and James Hair logged a pair of RBIs each, while Caleb Shoemake and Dylan Jones had a hit apiece.

The win gets Colbert to an 11-1 record on the fall baseball season, following a weekend tournament victory in Roff. The Leopards brought home the hardware by defeating host Roff 5-3, Byng 6-1 and outlasting Latta 15-14 in the championship game on Saturday.

Britt said there were plenty of highlights from the Roff Tournament, punctuated by Kason Krob’s 3-hitter against Byng on Friday. Krob struck out 10 Pirates. On Saturday, the Leopards out-hit Latta 19-18, with the difference being a go-ahead 2-run homer from Nichols in the sixth, Britt said.

Colbert hosts Tupelo on Tuesday.
