SILO — The Tushka Lady Tigers defeated the Silo Lady Rebels 15-1 on Tuesday evening to improve their regular season record to 18-5. The Lady Tigers are currently ranked no. 5 in Class 2A.
Kelsie Chambers and Kayla Wilhite each finished with a home run and three RBIs for the Lady Tigers. Sadi Avants went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI; Haley Cops went 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI; Katelyn Cook went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Cook put the Lady Tigers on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI triple that scored Wilhite from third base. Chambers followed with a two-run shot over the left field wall to put Tushka on top 3-0.
Chambers got the start for the Lady Tigers and gave up two early walks in the bottom of the first. Silo leadoff hitter Riley Newton tried to score on a wild throw to second base but was caught in a rundown between third and home plate. Mary Grider grounded out to end a scoreless inning for the Lady Rebels.
With two outs in the top of the second, Wilhite hit an inside-the-park homer to left field that scored Avants to give the Lady Tigers a 5-0 lead.
Despite giving up two runs in the inning, the Lady Rebels turned in two fine defensive plays. Shortstop Kenslie Stanley fielded a slow roller and made a strong throw that just beat Lindsey Broughton to first base for the second out.
Silo centerfielder Brooke Sanford ended the inning with a brilliant diving catch to rob Logan Carbaugh of a hit and an RBI.
Sanford also scored the lone Silo run in the bottom of the third courtesy of an RBI double from Rachel Grider.
The wheels came off for the Lady Rebels in the top of the fourth with nine Tushka runs crossing the plate. Wilhite, Cook, Chambers, Avants, Cops, Carbaugh, and Courtney Cook all had RBIs for the Lady Tigers. Carbaugh knocked in the ninth run of the inning with an RBI single to make it 15-1.
Chambers struck out two more Silo batters in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away. Chambers pitched all four innings for the Lady Tigers and finished with six strikeouts.
The next game for the Lady Tigers will be on Thursday at home against Tupelo.
The Lady Rebels (12-5) will look to bounce back with an appearance in the Roff Tournament next week where they will play Tupelo in the opening round. – J.H.
