Two fires were put out Wednesday at a vacant house, according to the Durant Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to 209 E. Locust St., and upon arrival, they found two small fires that were quickly extinguished. According to a fire department report, one fire was in the northwest part of the house and the other in the southeast portion.

Deputy Fire Chief Marc Hall said the house had been vacant for some time and that the fires were of a suspicious origin. The house did not have utility services and the city has condemned the house.

In other fire calls, firefighters were dispatched at 4:05 p.m. Monday to the 2400 block of Wilson Street about a fire in a yard. According to a department report, a man was burning leaves and small sticks. He was told that the state is still under a burn ban.

Firefighters responded to a grass fire Wednesday at the Southeastern Aviation Institute on Cessna Drive. The fire was out when firefighters arrived and according to a fire department report, it was caused by a downed power line.
