COLBERT - Leopard baseball posted a 3-1 mark over three days this week, improving the team’s overall record to 14-2.
On Tuesday, the fourth-ranked Leopards fell to No. 2 Rattan 9-1. The Rams are defending Class A champions from the spring season. Colbert bounced back with a 13-3 win over Tupelo in one of the most memorable home games ever played.
The Leopards put on a virtual home run derby against the Tigers, with Caleb Shoemake leading the charge on a grand slam. Dakota Graham and Bradley Nichols also notched round-trippers in the nightcap game. (Rattan run-ruled Tupelo in the middle game.)
Colbert hosted another three-team, three-game evening Thursday, with the Leopards carving out a pair of run-rule wins over Turner and Vanoss. The 9-1 win over Turner was fueled by hits from Shoemake, Zac Lovelace, Preston Rice, Peyton Whitehead and Chris “Bubba” Roberts.
After a short rain delay, the Leopards made quick work of Vanoss in a three-inning 13-1 decision. Hurler Preston Rice took the win. Shoemake had a two-RBI double, Dylan Jones was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Cade Carter had an RBI two-bagger.
Trevor Cole, Peyton Whitehead and James Hair all scored two runs each; pinch-hitter Ethan Williams smacked the game-ending RBI in the third.
