The Silo Rebels braved the heat on Tuesday afternoon and pulled off a couple of impressive victories over the visiting Rock Creek Mustangs. The Rebels (15-4) won the first game 10-3 and then followed with a 10-1 victory in the second game.

Game One:

KC Walls was the winning pitcher for Silo and threw all seven innings with three strikeouts. The Rebels benefited from several quality hitting performances in the first game. Lance House went 3-for-4 with three triples, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Justin Hendricks went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs; Walls finished with two hits including a home run; Leonard Sandler went 3-for-3 with three singles. After scoring two runs in the opening frame, the Rebels broke the game open in the bottom of the second with six runs crossing the plate. A pair of back-to-back RBI triples from House and Hendricks made it 5-0. With runners on first and second and two outs, Walls smashed a high drive over the right field wall to give the Rebels a commanding lead. The Mustangs (4-11) changed pitchers in the bottom of the third with Dakota Jackson replacing Nash Hestily on the mound. Jackson pitched well in relief and the Rebels only scored two more runs over the final four innings of play. “Dakota came in and stopped the bleeding a little,” said Rock Creek coach Kyle Wingfield after game one. “We didn’t do a good job of throwing the ball and that got us in trouble.” After a scoreless fourth inning, the Mustangs got on the board in the top of the fifth. A bases-loaded walk scored the first run and then David Dill knocked in two more with an RBI single to make it 9-3. The Rebels tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple from House. House ended the game in the top of the seventh with a nice diving catch in right field followed by a quick throw to first base to double off the Rock Creek base runner.

Game Two:

Forrest Ludrick got the start for the Rebels in the second game and fanned four batters in 5.0 innings while giving up just one run.

The Rebels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice RBI from Jacob Savage. The Rebels pulled away with another six-run inning in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Lucas Long hit a line drive to left field that scored all three runs. Both Ludrick and Hunter Jackson had RBI doubles to give the Rebels a 7-0 lead after three innings. The Mustangs scored their lone run in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Ethan Mitchell. Silo scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to pad the lead. House ended the second game with another great catch. With two outs, Dill hit a short pop fly that drifted toward the fence in foul territory. House ranged over to his left and reached over the fence to snag the ball for the third out. Silo head coach Billy Jack Bowen was pleased with his team’s effort in both games. “We hit it okay and pitched well at times,” said Bowen. “It was hot today but it was good to be back on the field.” The Rebels will have a day off before they make their next appearance which will be in the Silo Tournament on Thursday. The next game for the Mustangs will be on September 7 against Wright City.
