Coach Jenn King’s Savage Storm volleyballers are in for another dose of road rage this weekend.
Southeastern is looking for its first win, but it won’t be easy at the Tarleton State Tournament in Stephenville, Texas.
The Storm will play the University of the Incarnate Word at noon Friday and close out the first day against Texas A&M-Commerce at 5 p.m.
Saturday’s action will feature matches against Lubbock Christian at noon and host Tarleton State at 4 p.m.
It’s never easy to start a season on the road and it’s especially difficult with six new players on the 11-lady roster.
Throw in the loss of All-America (maybe All-World) Lunden Azuara and it’s easy to see why it will take some time to get everyone on the same page.
There are no undefeated teams in the GAC and only Arkansas Tech at 3-1 sports a winning record. Harding and Southern Arkansas are 2-2 each and all others are on the debit side of the record in the early going.
The schedule turns to the nice side Tuesday, September 11, when the Storm will host Great American Conference newcomer Southern Nazarene in a 7 p.m. match at Bloomer Sullivan Gym.
STORM FOOTBALL has a few extra days to enjoy the first-game win over Texas A&M-Commerce.
Coach Ray Richards’ club rode a stout defensive performance to a 31-6 victory at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The Lions managed just 185 total yards and the Storm offense mounted a 16-play, 99-yard scoring drive that took 12 minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter.
Houston Slemp delivered the go-ahead points when he returned an interception 79 yards for a touchdown with 46 seconds left in the first period. Chris Peoples delivered the winning point from placement.
Southeastern joins Arkansas Tech, Arkansas-Monticello, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist with 1-0 records after the opening week.
After a bye week, the Storm will host Southern Arkansas September 15 to open GAC competition, tailgate competition and celebrate Parents and Family Day.
All weenies and buns are invited to Tailgate Alley three hours prior to the 6 p.m. kickoff.
LADYSTORM SOFTBALL is back in action Saturday as the fall season continues.
Coach Ron Faubion’s young ladies will host a seven-team, 10-game shootout at Durant’s Multi-Sports Complex with action beginning at 10 a.m. on three fields.
Seminole, Northern, Eastern, Murray, Grayson and Connors will join Southeastern in the shootout.
The shakedown cruise coantinues for the LadyStorm as Faubion searches for the proper offensive and defensive combinations.
There will be plenty of parking, restrooms and a concession stand to make things pleasant for the fans.
