CADDO - A persistent grass fire which appeared to start along US 69/75 threatened homes for a second day Tuesday.

Fire crews from Caddo, Durant and other nearby volunteer departments spent several hours Tuesday battling the wildfire along Miller Road, southwest of Caddo. Some roads were closed by local law enforcement, and a few homes and barns were threatened, but no evacuations were necessary.

The fire was contained to the western side of US 69/75, between the highway and Hat Powell Road. It appeared to originate from the same area along the roadside where fire crews were seen battling the blaze on Monday, alongside construction crews laying down asphalt on the outside southbound lane of the four-lane highway.

No information was available Tuesday about the cause of the wildfire. The National Weather Service is calling for dry and windy conditions today which could exacerbate the situation. The entire state of Oklahoma is under a ban on outdoor burning imposed by Gov. Mary Fallin.
