Marilyn Rutz was born in Follett, Texas to Christ and Emma Melzer on August 22, 1935. She passed from this life into heaven on September 14, 2012, in Perryton, Texas.

She attended school in Follett, playing basketball in high school. She married Darrell Rutz in 1953. They had three children. She will not only be remembered as a loving Mom, Granny, Sister & Friend, but as a caring and giving person to all.

Mr. and Mrs. Rutz lived in Perryton since 1959, moving there from Booker, Texas.

They owned and operated Rutz Oil Co., where she was the secretary and bookkeeper. She retired in 1991.

She had a very special love, Bill Rogers. He was her rock. They traveled and spent lots of time enjoying being together.

Marilyn was the best Granny ever, a “healer” of the sick, and “keeper”of those playing hooky so they could go spend the day with her.

Marilyn loved to work in her yard, and you could tell, it looked like something out of a magazine all of the time. She spent hours just a-swinging and enjoying her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, and two brothers, Edgar and Steve.

She is survived by her three daughters, Janet Matlock and husband Dean of Bennington, Okla., Sandy Palmer and husband Danny of Perryton, Texas, Kelly Luck and husband Danny of Bennington, Okla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will all miss her greatly.

At Marilyn’s request she will be cremated, and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to one of the following organizations of your choice:

Ochiltree County Hospice Volunteers, 3101 Garrett, Perryton, Texas 79070.

Smithlawn Church of Christ, P.O. Box 6451, Lubbock, Texas 79401.
