SILO – The Silo Rebels began district tournament play on Thursday with a pair of victories over the Turner Falcons and the Stonewall Longhorns. The Rebels eliminated Turner with a 16-0 win and then beat Stonewall 10-1. The Rebels now need only one more win over the Longhorns to win their district championship.

Silo only needed 3 ½ innings to defeat the Falcons in the first game. Forrest Ludrick struck out seven Turner batters and only allowed one hit.

The Rebels jumped out to a quick start with five runs in the first two frames to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Lance House started things off with a double in the bottom of the first and Justin Hendricks drove him in with an RBI single for the first run of the game.

Andrew Bolin, Kacey Love, and Tanner Clark also had RBI in the first inning. Hendricks led off the bottom of the second with another single and then Bolin blasted a two-run shot over the left field wall that made it 7-0.

The Rebels added two more runs on a couple of bases-loaded walks. Tanner Hearon also had an RBI double in the inning that gave the Rebels a 16-0 lead. Ludrick retired the side in the top of the fourth to end the game.

Hendricks went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and Bolin went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored. Kyle Tate and Lucas Long also finished with RBI for the Rebels.

Hendricks got the start on the mound for the Rebels in the second game against Stonewall. Hendricks pitched a complete game and struck out nine hitters while only giving up one run.

Although Silo scored 26 runs in both games combined, head coach Billy Jack Bowen was pleased with the effort of his pitchers.

“Both of our pitchers threw well today,” said Bowen. “Both of them threw strikes and they were consistent.”

After retiring the side in order in the top of the first, the Rebels scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Bolin knocked in the first two runs of the game but was thrown out at third base trying to stretch a double into a triple.

The Longhorns scored their only run of the game in the top of the second on a sacrifice RBI to make it 3-1. The Rebels responded with five runs in the bottom of the second.

Leonard Sandler, Hendricks, and Tate each had an RBI in the inning. Hendricks settled into a groove on the mound and didn’t give up another run for the rest of the game.

The Rebels added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Tate and an RBI double from Jarris Hamilton to make it 10-1.

Lance House went 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game with two runs scored; Hendricks went 2-for-4 with two RBI; Sandler went 2-for-4 with one RBI; and Tate went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The Rebels will play Stonewall again on Friday at 4 p.m. with a second game following, if necessary.
