For at least the past 20 years the Friends of the Library group has held an annual book sale in the fall.

This year’s book sale will be held this coming Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 4 through Oct. 6 at the Donald W. Reynolds Library.

The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday Oct 4. Hours for Friday and Saturday will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Books cost an average of 50 cents to $1 and never cost more than $5.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase tickets for a handmade quilt to be given away in December. The quilt was made by members of a community quilting class held at the library. The tickets will be available during this week’s sale, and the quilt will be on display.

The proceeds of the book sale go to the Friends of the Library to aid library programs and services.

The Friends of the Library currently sponsor three databases used by the Durant Public Library.

The group also raised money to donate the sculptures and artwork in the library. The members of the group also volunteer their assistance within the library.

The library staff sorts out books that the library needs for its collection before the books are sold. Only books not needed by the library go into the sale.

The books are all donated by local residents. To donate books for the annual book sale, residents can bring their unwanted books to the library.

If a resident has a book that they would like to donate but cannot get to the library, the resident can call the library at (580) 931-6600.

The Friends of the Library can then send a member to the resident’s home to pick up the unwanted book.
