The local Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (CASA) will be holding a meeting on Monday Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the CASA office in Durant located at 401 North 2nd Ave. Anybody who has interest in volunteering with CASA is invited.

CASA Director, Betty Colclazier said that the program desperately needs volunteers. There are no particular requirements in order to volunteer for the program, however background checks are performed on each volunteer.

Background checks insure that any volunteer is a safe person to work with children. All volunteers will be trained by CASA to be well equipped to work with children as well.

Volunteers will work with children who have been abused or neglected. Volunteers get to know children and their environments so that they can help inform judges about what would be in the best interest of each child.

“It doesn’t take much time, just a big ole heart” said Colclazier. To contact CASA for more information about volunteering individuals can call 744-2540 or 924-6164.
