DURANT - Durant Lion QB Zac Cater’s had a season high performance 28-for-45, 292 passing yards and 3 TD’s. However, Durant fell to Shawnee Wolves 49-30 on Thursday night.

The Lions were down 28-6 at half time, but Durant fought back and was down 35-22 at the end of the third quarter.

“We challenged them at half time to leave it on the field and they did.” said Lion head coach Byron Cordell, “I’m so proud of them for that. I’m disappointed that we didn’t we win, but I’m as proud of them as easy team I’ve coached here in Durant. They showed heart, character and courage in the second half.”

Lions’ RB Dakota Diessner had 3 TD’s against the Wolves. Usually Diessner has a big night on the ground, but on Thursday night he led the team in receiving with 10 catches for 95 yards, 2 TD’s. He had 34 yards on the ground with 1 rushing TD. Brandon Maynard had 7 catches for 80 yards, Blake Wilson had 6 catches for 90 yards and Hunter Stephens had 4 catches for 51 yards and 1 TD.

The Lions would score only touchdown in first quarter. The Wolves were leading 7-0, but the Lions answered back with seven play drive that ended with Cater connecting with Stephens in the endzone for a TD. Cater went 5-for-6 on the series.

Then Wolves would strike quickly and often before the half and led 28-6.

A game broke out at after halftime when the Lions came roaring back to give the Wolves a scare.

Shawnee had the ball to begin the third quarter and drove down the field and scored on 9 play drive that extended the led to 35-6.

With 8:41 left in the third quarter, the Lions began another long drive that started at it’s own 35 yard line and ended with Diessner running it in for a TD from the wildcat formation. The Lions trailed 35-13.

But the Lions weren’t done. With 2:23 left in the quarter, the Lions drove back down the field on a 8 play drive that cover 70 yards and scored. The Lions faced a 4th-and-10 at the Wolves 23 yard line. Then coach called the old hook-and-ladder play and it work. Cater would hit Maynard and he tossed back to Diessner and he did the rest. The Wolves led 35-22 to end the quarter.

But the Wolves would answer back in the beginning minutes of fourth quarter an led 43-22 with 8:00 minutes left in the game.

The last scoring drive for Durant began on it’s 43 yard line. The Lions quickly scored on a 6 play drive that ended on Diessner’s 27 yard TD. “The offensive line had a little trouble with run blocking, but they did a great job in pass protection tonight. Gave Cater a chance to make big plays and the receivers caught the ball. They did a great job for us.” said Cordell.

The Lions go on the road next Friday to the play Noble at 7:30 p.m.
