MCSO Auxiliary hosted its annual chili luncheon on Thursday Oct. 25. The event was held at the Clay Jones Community Building from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and cost $5.

Chili with onion and cheese as well as desert was served by Auxiliary volunteers and hospital management and staff volunteers.

According to event chairperson Sherry Scavo, 432 people placed to-go orders and 312 people ate in at the Clay Jones Community Building. The lunch was also available at the MCSO hospital.

“This is our major fundraiser,” said volunteer Judy Starbuck. The event has been held annually for over 30 years in Bryan County.

All proceeds from the event go to fund a scholarship for local students pursuing careers in the medical field.

The MCSO Auxiliary is an organization of volunteers that help the local Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma hospital in various ways. It rents the gift shop in the hospital and makes coffee and tea for those visiting patients in the hospital.

The organization also has a door greeter at the main entrance and emergency entrance of the hospital.

The Bokchito Masonic Lodge #253 and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans both helped at the event as well. Both organizations will also be matching the funds raised by the event.

Scavo has been the chairperson for the luncheon for approximately four years. “It’s a lot of fun,” said Scavo, “The whole community turns out.”
