The Lady Eagles of Victory Life Academy took a 48-32 win over Bennington on Friday to start the hoops season.
Michaela Woodall and Amy Roesler led the Lady Eagles with 12 points each. Crystal Tate was the top scorer for the Lady Bears, going 7-of-10 from the free throw line and finishing with 11 points.
VLA led 13-7 after one quarter, and held the Lady Bears to just four points in the second quarter to take a 26-11 lead at the half. Bennington outscored the Lady Eagles 13-10 in the third but could not catch up in time.
“We’ve been stressing defense,” said VLA Coach Mark Earnhart. “We’re trying to be in position and get our feet where they are supposed to be. We’ve got a group of girls working hard and they’ve got a vision of where they want to be.”
