If you have not been down Main Street in Durant, you might want to take a look. Many of the businesses are beginning to put up Christmas decorations in their stores and in their windows. And, with the coolness of the weather, it is beginning to feel like Christmas is just around the corner. The Durant Main Street Shopping Spree had its first weekly winner, Latesha Hallmark. She made her purchase at The Plaza/Studio One Photography. Latesha was presented with a prize of a “CanCooker”, which was donated by Steger Lumber Company. Thank you to Jeff Patton, Manager and to Steger Lumber Company for your donation. Mr. Patton even gave Latesha a few pointers of his cooking experience with the CanCooker. Durant Main Street appreciates all of those who have donated prizes for the special weekly drawings. All day Thursday will be “double ticket day”. Due to the many businesses not being open late on Thursday, we will have double ticket day all day long. Be sure to patronize downtown Durant businesses and especially on Thursday to take advantage of the double tickets you will receive for the special weekly drawing.

Durant Main Street Shopping Spree has just completed its second week for distributing tickets for the customer who are patronizing downtown businesses. For every $10 purchase, you will receive a shopping spree ticket to be placed into the hopper for the big drawing. This will take place on at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18 at the Market Square Stage. You must be present to win. So get shopping downtown Durant. You can buy something for everyone on your list from the wide variety of stores we have right here in downtown Durant. Oh, yes, another downtown business is involved in the shopping spree-Body Business. You will find a picture of a Christmas tree displayed in the businesses who are participating. Other downtown businesses participating in the Shopping Spree are: A&M Engraving; Bliss Boutique; Central Electric; Count Your Blessings; Cricket Box; Criswell Law Office; Curtis Jewelry; Deborah’s Florist; Durant Lumber Company; Generations/Merle Norman; The Glittering Door; HNT Quilt Shop; The Hollow Tree; JJ Mundi; Whitney Kerr, Attorney; Mackey Home Appliance Center; Marie’s; Mickle Law Firm; Old Ice House; Pat Phelps, Attorney, Roma’s Italian Restaurant; Steger Lumber Company; Studio One Photography; Swearengin Insurance; Take 2 Boutique; The Country Framer; The Plaza; The Umbrella; and Uncle Stew’s Guns.

Another upcoming event is the Downtown Holiday on Saturday, December 1. The day will also be “Triple Ticket Day” at participating businesses. Activities will take place from 10:00-4:00. Many businesses will be having special purchases going on in their stores. Plan to come downtown and check it out. Plans are in their final stages of the holiday activities with more details to come.

The Durant Main Street office has been busy this week, as interviews for the new Durant Main Street Director have been on-going.
