Durant firefighters responded to the Southeastern Occupational Safety Building after smoke was seen coming from the building late Monday evening.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:25 to the building, located at North Seventh Avenue and Chuckwa Street, and when they arrived, the SE Police opened the building.

Firefighters determined there was a short inside the main electrical panel and the main breaker was shut off. SE maintenance was called and firefighters used a fan to remove the smoke.

In other fire calls, firefighters put out a car fire Friday on Van Street in Blue. Firefighters were dispatched at 5:16 p.m. and when the arrived, a Pontiac GT was on fire in the driveway in front of the home.

The owner was trying to put out the fire with a garden hose. The fire was in the engine compartment and after using a tool to open the hood, firefighters hosed down the fire.

Verdena Speakman, the owner, told firefighters she had recently arrived home and when she went back outside, she saw that the car was on fire.
