Sheriff’s deputies have investigated several thefts in the county recently, and also Durant firefighters hosed down several grass fires.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Bannowsky was dispatched to the 5000 block of Highway 69/75 to investigate the burglary of a shop building.

Scott Stoner said someone broke in and stole a generator, a battery and three pounds of processed copper for a loss of $1,100.

Marilyn Alexander told Deputy Tim Harwood that an unknown amount of tackle boxes had been stolen from her boat stored at Newberry Creek Marina in Mead.

An investigation by the sheriff’s office into the burglary Thursday of Randel Sisson’s residence in the 200 block of North Davis Road led to charges against a Bokchito man.

Charles Wayne Faull, 36, was charged Thursday afternoon with second-degree burglary, according to court records.

In other news, the warm and dry conditions are helping to fuel grass and rubbish fires. Durant firefighters responded to three fires Thursday. Firefighters were dispatched at 12:35 p.m. to the 2900 block of Albert Pike Road in Durant where a half-acre of trash, brush and wood was on fire. The Caddo Volunteer Fire Department assisted with a tanker truck and firefighters left the scene at 3:10 that afternoon.

A fire from Wednesday in the 1700 block of North First Avenue rekindled at 2:13 p.m. Thursday. According to a department report, cross ties on a railroad right of way that had burned the day before caught back on fire.

Firefighters also responded to a small grass fire at 6:05 p.m. in the 500 block of Beach Drive. The city is presently not issuing any burn permits due to the dry and windy conditions.
