Calera Boys – 55

Kingston JV – 37

Connor Hamilton scored 13 points to lead the Calera Bulldogs to a first round victory over the Redskins. Preston Barkley also scored in double figures with 12 points.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start in the first quarter and it seemed like there was a lid on the bucket in the opening minutes. A couple of three-pointers from Tyler Black and Conner Mulkey got things started and the Bulldogs led 14-7 after the first quarter. Hamilton scored eight of his 13 points in the second quarter as the Bulldogs added to their lead and built a ten-point cushion heading into the locker room.

The Bulldogs kept up the intensity in the second half and outscored the Redskins 28-8 to pull away for the victory. Mulkey finished with eight points. Braxton Barton scored seven points and Riggin Rogers chipped in five points. The Bulldogs will take on Rock Creek in the second round on Friday night at 8:30.

Calera Girls – 68 Soper – 19:

Calera made short work of the Soper Lady Red Bears as Taylor Pickett turned in a 29-point game to lead the Lady Bulldogs in scoring. “I thought that Taylor played well tonight and that was a career-high for her in scoring,” said Calera coach Lachelle Brown. Micaela Curtman scored 11 points and Raylee Rogers also finished in double-figures with 10 points. Lynsie Patton scored nine points and Ashlyn Cooper scored six points. The Lady Bulldogs set the tone early with a 10-0 scoring run to start the game. Pickett scored sixteen of her 29 points in the first quarter as Calera led 20-6 after the first eight minutes. The Lady Bulldogs led 34-10 at the half. Pickett and Curtman each scored nine points apiece in the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs took a 55-14 lead into the fourth quarter. Calera tacked on 13 more points in the fourth quarter to finish mopping things up. “We played hard all four quarters and were hitting shots early in the game,” said Brown. “Overall, I thought everyone played well.” The Lady Bulldogs will play Rock Creek in the second round of the winner’s bracket.

Rock Creek Boys – 59

Soper – 21:

David Dill and Cameron Hammond both scored 13 points as the Mustangs defeated the Soper Red Bears convincingly in the final game of the evening. “We did what we were supposed to do offensively tonight,” said Rock Creek coach Rob Frederick. “We had some easy looks and shot the ball well.” The Mustangs played good defense in the opening quarter and held the Red Bears to just four points. The defensive effort continued in the second quarter and the Mustangs led 28-7 at halftime. “We really rely on our defense to help us win games,” said Frederick. “It helps set us up and give us confidence on the offensive end.” The Mustangs ran away with it in the second half and outscored the Red Bears 31-14. Bronson Burns finished with 12 points. Tyler Parker and Austin McCann both scored seven points. The Mustangs take on the Calera Bulldogs in the second round on Friday night.
