SILO – The Lady Rebels took advantage of Achille’s second half scoring shutdown to take a 52-35 win over the Lady Eagles in Saturday’s tournament championship.
Kenslie Stanley was named most valuable player as she led the Lady Rebels with 17 points. Rachel Grider added 14.
Achille took an early four-point lead paced by a steal and layup for Marissa Williams. Silo tied the game at 11-11 at the end of the first.
The Lady Rebels looked to make a run until Kayla Wright scored the last four points of the quarter to keep it close. Silo held a 26-24 advantage at the half.
Grider took over in the third, scoring eight quick points including a pair of high arcing threes which found nothing but net. She helped Silo outscore Achille 10-5 in the third to take a 36-29 lead.
Stanley kept the momentum by scoring the first five points of the fourth and opening a 41-29 Lady Rebel lead. They finished on a 16-6 run and held the Lady Eagles to just 11 second-half points.
Kara Felton and Hannah Bourne scored six each for Silo, followed by four from Jacque Hendricks, three for Katlyn Halley and two for Riley Newton. Wright led Achille with 10, Williams had eight, Mallory Phelps scored six, Maddison Stanglin had five, Maggie Back had four and Cheyenne Crisp scored two.
Girls third place: Victory Life Academy 39 Springer 35
Michaela Woodall scored 20 and Macie Bufkin had 10 as the Lady Eagles bounced back and handed Springer a 39-35 loss at Silo on Saturday.
Amy Roesler had four, Sarah Roesler three and Sierra Kinnamon two in the contest.
Girls consolation: Caney 43 Wapanucka 23
Sekret Henry scored 14 and Makaela Mahana had 10 as the Lady Cougars picked up a tournament win Saturday in Silo. Caney will see more tournament action this week at the Murray State College Invitational.
