OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 10, 2012) – A star turn that helped Oklahoma Christian snap a 13-game losing streak against archrival Southern Nazarene led to center Katy O’Steen being honored on Monday as the Heartland Conference co-player of the week for women’s basketball.

O’Steen, a 6-foot-1 senior from Durant, poured in a career-high 27 points on Thursday in a 72-71 loss to Mid-America Christian, the second time this season she’s posted a new career-best in scoring.

She followed up on Saturday by leading the Lady Eagles with 13 points in a 76-59 win over Southern Nazarene, playing a season-high 31 minutes. On the week, O’Steen averaged 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from the field (15 of 30) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (9 of 12).

She ranks second in the Heartland in scoring at 17.5 points per game despite averaging only 23.6 minutes per contest. She is fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage (85.2 percent) and seventh in field-goal percentage (47.8 percent).

O’Steen shared the weekly honor with Morgan Pullins of St. Mary’s (Texas). It was the second time this season O’Steen has received the player-of-the-week award from the Heartland, as she also won it after the opening week of the season.
