Toys for Tots got kicked off early Saturday morning and the line populated outside the Bryan County Community Center in Durant in wait for the doors to open.
The Toys for Tots program had about “2,000 kids signed up” this year, said Brian Bond, the Chairperson of the Lions Toy Box. This year $15,000 dollars was spent on toys and another $10,000 to $15,000 worth of toys donated.
“We service of all Bryan County, we have kids signed up from all the county schools and we have a sign up at the Chamber of Commerce. So we get pretty much all the county covered,” said Bond.
The Boy Scout Troops #615 and #618 lent a hand as they “spent the entire night here to help us sort the toys and getting everything ready,” said Bond.
When the day is done, not all the toys are given out and “when they left over, we take some of the toys to the youth shelter and some goes to Friends Feeding Families. So anything still here, we try to get all handed out.” said Bond.
“We like to thank everyone for their donations that made it possible.” said Bond.
