TUSHKA — The Boswell Scorpions put a third-quarter sting on the Tushka Tigers to win the Tushka Invitational Tournament on Saturday with a 53-37 win over their conference rivals.
Tournament most valuable player Markell Henderson scored 24 points for the Scorpions, including 16 in a decisive third quarter run. Tushka held a 20-19 lead at halftime before Henderson went on a downtown pull-up spree to pace a 24-10 Boswell rally.
“We feel like we can do anything now. We played tough teams all week,” Henderson said. “It was good to get some revenge on (Tushka), after they beat us opening night.”
The Scorpions went 4-0 last week against some of the best teams in southeast Oklahoma. After a win over Rattan (Class 2A No. 11), Boswell downed Moyers (Class B No. 10), Wright City (Class A No. 4) and the hot-shooting Tigers.
“Our side of the bracket was really loaded,” said Boswell Coach Parker Harless. “Playing Tushka here at Tushka is always tough. I really believe we became more mentally tough this week. We’re getting better, but I don’t think we’ve reached our full potential.”
In the tournament final, Cameron Collier and Tracy Brown added 10 points each for the Scorpions. Garrette Wall led the Tigers with 14 while Lane Faulkenberry was held to just nine points – his lowest output of the tournament.
Faulkenberry and Wall both were named to the all-tournament team, as well as Boswell’s Cameron Collier. Brandon Slocum of Moyers and Tanner Brown of Antlers rounded out the all-tourney honorees.
The Scorpions host Caddo tonight before next week’s Bryan County Tournament gets underway. Tushka has a tough week with Silo visiting tonight, then road games in Caney on Thursday and Antlers on Friday. The Tigers defeated the BearCats last week in the Invitational.
