DURANT - The Durant Lady Lions (3-14) had their hands full with Chickasha Fighting Lady Chicks (7-9), losing at home 63-51 on Friday night.

The Lady Lions scored 51 points and had four players in double-digits, which in most cases can almost assure a win in high school basketball, but the Lady Chicks inside game couldn’t be stop and cold shooting in some stretchs doomed Durant.

The first quarter saw the Lady Lions go 4-of-13 from the field, but three 3-point buckets from Shelbi Barrett and Rheagan Jones kept the Lady Lions in the game and trailed 15-11 after the the first period.

Barrett finished with 12 points, Alexa Richards had 12 points, Rheagan had 10 points, Katie Caraway had 10 points, Sierra Wilhite had 3 points, Rylie Richards and Kylie Manning both had 2 points apiece.

The game began to get away from the Lady Lions in the second period as cold shooting haunted the team. The Lady Chicks busted out of the gates with a 8-0 run then Jones stop the bleeding for the Lady Lions with a 3-pointer. At the 3:00 mark, Chickasha rolled on with another run of 8-6 and led 31-20 headed into half time.

Durant clawed back into the game in the third period. With two 3-pointers by A. Richards, the Lady Lions trailed 35-28 with 4:00 minutes left in the period. However, the Lady Chicks bounced back with a 13-3 run and led 48-31 heading into the fourth period.

The Lady Lions gave good effort as the won the fourth quarter 20-15, but it was too little too late.

Boys:

Durant Lions’ (6-11) James Donelan posted a double-double on Friday night with 12 points and 10 blocks, but a slow start hurt the Lions chances against the Chickasha Fighting Chicks (8-5) and fell 64-43.

The Lions were 3-of-12 from the field in the first period and the Chicks ran away and led 23-7 heading into the second period.

Since the Lions struggled from the field in the first period, the Lions began to attack the basket in second period and all but 4 points came from the free throw line. The Lions outscored the Chicks in the period, 17-9 and trailed 32-25 at the half.

Durant couldn’t cut into the Chicks led as both teams traded buckets in the third period and the Lions trailed 46-36 going into the final frame.

Jalen Harris had the hot hand in the fourth period and helped his team climb back into game. Harris scored 6 points to begin the quarter as the Chicks could only mustard 2 points and the Lions trailed 42-48 with 6:00 minutes left. But after that, Durant’s shots didn’t fall and the Chicks went a 14-1 run to end the game.

Durant’s stats: Donelan had 12 points, Harris had 11 points, Will Engle had 5 points, Cameron Scheussler had 4 points, Dakota Green had 3 points, Blake Wilson - Sky Lowe and Cole Hughes had 2 points apiece, Zac Cater and Cooper Webb had 1 points apiece.
