County Commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday and during the meeting, they discussed the ongoing issues with the wall construction of the county jail project.

According to commissioners, Lonestar Masonry, who was hired to repair the work not completed by the original contractors, has not fulfilled its duties either.

Commissioner Monty Montgomery said that there is still a hole on one wall that needs repaired as well as other issues remaining.

The wall he spoke of was used to do construction in the wall but was meant to be filled afterward. The group also did not have a superintendent on site to give instruction.

Per contract agreement, the construction manager cannot instruct the masonry group, so the presence of a superintendent is necessary.

The commissioners plan to meet with both the bonding company and the masonry group to discuss how to handle the situation.

Also discussed in Tuesday’s meeting was an emergency backup exercise for the county officials. Bryan County Emergency Manager James Dalton presented the idea to the commissioners.

Dalton said the exercise would be to set up a plan of continuity of local government and services should a disaster strike.

Dalton said he had done this with Durant City officials. In that exercise, a natural gas explosion was simulated in which a waterline also broke.

The exercise helped determine things such as how people would go to court, buy graves and find city officials.

The exercise determines where officials would relocate, how they would continue services and even how they would appoint new officials should one die during a disaster.

Commissioners agreed to the exercise. The exercise will be scheduled for a day that all officials will be present but will not be revealed to officials so that the most natural responses may occur.
