ADA - The Durant Lions tangled with Ada Cougars on Tuesday night and it was a cat fight down to the last second, but the Lions would come up just short of getting the win 50-47.

Cole Hughes and Zac Cater carried the load for the Lions throughout the game. Hughes finished with a team high 23 points, hitting six 3-pointers, and Cater pitched in 13 points.

Durant led after the first period 15-10, due to Hughes 9 points, Cater had 4 points and Skye Lowe got a bucket. Then the game got tight in the second quarter.

The Cougars would jump back into the game in the second period as the Lions shooting went cold.

After Hughes opened the period with a bucket, the Cougars would go on a 10-0 run and took a brief 20-17 lead. However, the Lions came back with a buckets from Cater and James Donelan and the Lions led 21-20 with seconds left in the period. But the Cougars would tie the game at 21 just before the half.

Again Hughes, Cater and Lowe led the team in scoring in the third period and kept the Cougars close. Ada began the half with a 7-2 run, but Hughes stop the bleeding with a 3-pointer. Then Ada would go on a 5-0 run and led 33-26. The Lions would close out the period with a 7-2 run, with buckets from Hughes, Cater and Lowe and trailed 36-33.

The game stayed tight in the fourth period as both teams fought down to the last second. With only 2:00 minutes left in the game, the Cougars led 48-44. Ada could have put the game away at the free throw line, but they missed all three chances. After the last miss free throw, Hughes hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining and the Lions trailed 48-47.

However, the Cougars would hit both free throws with 14 seconds left on the clock to extended the led to 50-47. Durant would get the ball back and with time running off the clock, Hughes would throw up a 3-pointer for the tie - but shot would bounce off the rim and the Lions fell to Ada.

The Durant Lady Lions were down 10-9 to the Ada Lady Cougars after the first period. But the game got away from the Lady Lions and Ada cruised to a 48-27 win.

Alexa Richards led the team in scoring with 8 points, Rheagan Jones followed with 6 points, Sierra Wilhite and Morgan Steve both had 4 points apiece, Kenzi Clapp had 3 points and Rylie Richards had 2 points.

The Lady Lions couldn’t find their shots in the second period and was outscored in the period by the Lady Cougars 11-3. Ada hit three 3-pointers and the Lady Lions trailed 21-12 heading into half time.

Ada extended it’s led in the third period as they went on a two runs of 8-2 and 9-2. The Lady Cougars led 38-16.

The Lady Lions began to put some points on the scoreboard from the free throw line, but it wasn’t enough for a come back and the Lady Lions fell 48-27.
