The Colbert Lady Leopards turned in a pair of double doubles on their way to a 60-32 Saturday win over Calera to capture the 2013 girls championship of the Bryan County Tournament.
Tournament MVP Darian Bradford had one of her best games ever with 18 points, 11 steals and five assists. Taylor Lyons went 7-for-10 from the field for 14 points, as well as 13 rebounds.
Ashlyn Cooper of Calera also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards, but the lightning quick Taylor Pickett was held to five points. The number 32 was not so lucky for teh Lady Dawgs: They were out-rebounded 46-32 and committed 32 turnovers to Colbert’s 19.
Colbert’s Ginavee Mowles gobbled up 10 rebounds, including several of her six offensive boards in the first quarter which helped give the Lady Leopards a 15-7 lead. Mowles went 0-for-9 from the field and finished the game scoreless.
Katherine Hair picked up the slack with a pair of threes on her way to a 17-point outing. Colbert led 28-15 at the half. The lead would swell as high as 29 points as Colbert outscored the LadyDawgs 32-17 in the second half.
Taytiana Gray scored six and Bailee Weger had five for the Lady Leopards. Micaela Curtman scored eight, Lynsie Patton had six, and Raylee Rogers finished with three for Calera.
The All-Tournament Team included Hair and Weger from Colbert, Calera’s Pickett, as well as Lou Pilkilton of Caddo and Kenslie Stanley of Silo.
