Hands of Hope Outreach Center will be receiving updates in the coming months. With the help of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Hands of Hope will be expanding and renovating their location.
Hands of Hope Front Office Supervisor Beth Grindle said Hands of Hope has worked with the Regional Food Bank for several years.
During a visit from representatives of the Oklahoma City based food bank, Grindle said they expressed that the Regional Food Bank was impressed with the way Hands of Hope runs and how much help it provides.
According to Grindle Oklahoma Region Food Bank said that if Hands of Hope had the land available, Regional Food Bank would aid in expanding the facility and renovating the building already in place.
Grindle said this means the center will be able to distribute more products to the community.
Grindle said the center will be able to reach a lot more people and the expansion will provide ease to the ones coming to the facility for food.
Hands of Hope serves individuals at their facility at 724 W. Main St. in Durant as well as distributing to churches and other organizations that serve individuals in the area.
“If you have a need, that’s what God put us here for,” said Grindle.
At the current time, there is little parking for the facility so customers often have to double park and possibly face being ticketed.
The expansion will allow for more parking and easier loading for food to be distributed. The facility serves Bryan County as well as five surrounding counties.
Hands of Hope is currently looking for a building to work out of temporarily while the current facility is being renovated.
Grindle said with the new renovations, one new upgrade will be heat and air conditioning in the back of the facility where customers get their food, a luxury they currently do not have.
