Six local teams bring home district basketball trophies

The Bryan County area enjoyed a shimmering weekend of basketball as six regional teams brought home district trophies.

Each of them deserves recognition for a job well done:

CLASS A BOYS: Achille Eagles coached by Nick Beene. They were 63-58 winners over Rock Creek. The Eagles will be back in Rock Creek for an 8 p.m. Thursday game against Wright City in the regional round.

  • The Boswell Scorpions coached by Parker Harless. They were 78-64 winners over Smithville. The Scorpions will play in Kiowa against the Cowboys at 8 p.m. Thursday.

CLASS A GIRLS: Boswell Lady Scorpions coached by Christi Braudrick. They took a close 38-35 win over Smithville. The Lady Scorps will also be in Kiowa tonight at 6:30 p.m. to start the regional bracket.

CLASS B BOYS: Bennington Bears coached by John Talley. They were 75-47 winners over Victory Life Academy. The Bears will have a re-match against Moyers at 8 p.m. Thursday in Wapanucka.

  • Coleman Wildcats coached by Bobby Weil. They eased past Earlsboro 65-26 last week. The Wildcats will host Springer tonight at 8 p.m.

CLASS B GIRLS: Victory Life Academy Lady Eagles coached by Mark Earnhardt. The Lady Eagles defeated Milburn 45-38. VLA will play Midway at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Wapanucka.

The rest of the area’s survivors are in the consolation brackets of the regional playoffs and must win three games between Thursday and Saturday to advance to the area round. Those games will begin early Thursday afternoon.

CLASS A Consolation brackets (all games Thursday):

1:30 p.m. – Fort Towson girls at Rock Creek. (The Lady Mustangs will also host the girl’s regional semifinal between Turner and Wright City at 6:30 p.m.)

3 p.m. – Fort Towson boys at Rock Creek.

CLASS B Consolation brackets (all games Thursday):

1:30 p.m. – Springer girls at Coleman. (The Lady Wildcats will also host the girl’s regional semifinal between Tupelo and Earlsboro at 6:30 p.m.)

1:30 p.m. – Milburn girls at Wapanucka.

3 p.m. – Tupelo boys vs. Earlsboro (at Coleman).

3 p.m. – Victory Life Academy boys at Wapanucka.

3 p.m. – Caney boys vs. Buffalo Valley (at Calvin).
