A celebration to honor the life of Kathryn Galena Parrish will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 22, 2013, at the Prairie View Missionary Baptist Church, with son, Rev. Jim Parrish officiating.
Galena loved the Lord and was a member of New Home Freewill Baptist of Berryhill, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan, Jim, Rick, Larry, Michael and Trent Parrish.
Kathryn Galena Parrish was born Wednesday, March 23, 1932 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to Grady and Helen (Pierce) Cunningham. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Norman, Oklahoma. Galena Cunningham married Bill Parrish on May 23, 1950 in Berryhill, Oklahoma.
Galena and Bill raised four sons, and enjoyed watching their basketball and baseball games. She kept a loving home and dedicated herself to supporting her husband who was an educator/coach while he served schools in Oklahoma. Galena held a variety of jobs over the years: the McAlester Ammunition Depot, Troy Melton Insurance, Century Granite, Schlegel’s,and several school systems. She not only watched her sons play sports, but also watched all four of them coach. She was extremely proud of all her sons and their accomplishments.
Galena was a dedicated sports fan. She loved OU athletics and was a season ticket holder of the OU Women’s Basketball Team and looked forward to every season. She also enjoyed watching golf and her favorite golfer was Tiger Woods.
Grandma Galena loved her grandchildren and faithfully knitted all of them afghans when they graduated from high school. She really enjoyed family gatherings, especially Christmas when all her family came to her small apartment.
Mrs. Parrish is survived by her; sons, Dan Parrish and his wife Jane of Weleetka, Oklahoma, Jim Parrish and his wife Pam of Calera, Oklahoma, Rick Parrish and his wife Treva of Rush Springs, Oklahoma and Larry Parrish and wife Darla Parrish of Canute, Oklahoma; sisters, Mary Lou Owens of Norman, Oklahoma and Anna Marie Kluber of Fredericksburg, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 15 great -grandchildren and a slew of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Helen Cunningham; husband, Bill Parrish; brothers, James Cunningham and Blan Cunningham; sister, Comaleta Angelbeck.
