The Red River Classic, held in Calera, continued on Friday. The Colbert Leopards and Caddo Bruins were the teams left standing to face off in Saturday’s Championship game. However, mother nature decided to bring the rain and the Championship game was canceled.
Colbert continued to flex it’s muscle and run-ruled Boswell Scorpions to the tune 11-1 on Friday night and Caddo came away with a 5-4 victory over a tough Tushka Tigers team.
Colbert had a two game combined total of 23 runs.
Calera Bulldogs and the Rock Creek were elimenated in the consolation rounds, which pitted Soper and Stonewall for the consolation prize, while Tushka and Boswell battle for third place.
Soper and Stonewall were tied at 8 apiece on Saturday before the rain. Tushka and Boswell were sent home.
Colbert v. Boswell:
The game was really over after the first inning of play as Colbert put 9 runs on the scoreboard.
The bottom half of the first inning went pretty bad for Boswell Scorpion pitching and defensive play. Colbert didn’t need a hit to begin the game. Boswell’s defense dropped to two fly balls and walked three straight batters and Colbert was on top with a 3-0 before Colbert got a hit.
After two strike outs, Colbert was gifted a walk to load the bases again. Colbert’s Keson Krob would hammer a 2 run RBI double that gave the Leopards a 5-0 lead. But, Colbert wasn’t done.
Still facing two outs, Colbert’s bats stayed alive when Preston Rice hit a basesloaded 2 RBI single to center field. Caleb Shoemake scored on a wild pitch and Cade Cater would finish the inning with a RBI double. Colbert led 9-0.
Boswell attempted to show some life when Caleb Brown knocked a homer in the in the second inning, but it was the only run scored by Boswell.
Then in the bottom on the second inning, Colbert’s Dakota stepped into the batters box and smashed one out the park over the left field wall for a solo home run. Colbert would put the game away in the fourth inning with a RBI double.
Caddo v. Tushka:
A basbeball game broke out between the Caddo Bruins and the Tushka Tigers on Friday night. The game saw three lead changes.
Caddo pitcher Triston Paris pitched a compelte game with one home run allowed and had nine strike outs.
The Bruins caputered an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Tanner Grace and Wyatt Wright reached base, then Peyton Joines knocked his teammates in with a 2 RBI double to left field.
Tushka would answer back with a three runs in the bottom of the first inning and grabbed the lead. First a solo homerun, then a run scored on a wild pitch and another run crossed the plate of an RBI infield single. Caddo trailed 3-2.
The scored stayed the same until the fourth inning when the Bruins tied the game with a solo homerun from Tristan Paris.
Caddo grabbed the lead for good in the fifth inning after the sloppy play from Tushka. Caddo drew a walk from Joines to begin the inning, then Tuskha dropped a fly ball. With two baserunners on, Jacob Argo hit a sac-fly for an RBI and Josh Ringle hit a RBI double that gave the Bruins a 5-3 lead. Tushka would score one more run, but Caddo held off the ralling Tigers for a 5-4 victory.
