A house burned early Sunday morning, according to the Durant Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched at 1:22 a.m. to 1023 Grand Ave. and upon arrival two minutes later, the home was engulfed with flames coming out all sides.

Firefighters were on the scene for two hours and eight minutes fighting the fire, plus conducting salvage and overhaul operations.

The house was a total loss, according to a fire department report. James Manley, the person who lived there, told firefighters that he was at someone else’s house down the street when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In other fire calls, firefighters were dispatched at 12:23 a.m. Saturday to Roll Offs, 8567 W. Highway 70, after smoke was observed coming from the building. Firefighters entered the building and put out two piles of paint booth filters that were on fire.

A rubbish fire ended up catching a vacant mobile home on fire. Firefighters responded at 7:11 p.m. Saturday to the 2500 block of N. First Ave. According to the report, Bryan Kelly was burning a trash pile when it caught the grass on fire and when firefighters arrived, the vacant mobile home caught fire. Firefighters put out the fire and left the scene at 9:03 that evening.

Firefighters also put out a brush pile fire in the 400 block of East Main Street that evening and an unauthorized burning that morning in the 900 block of West Louisiana Street where someone was burning without a permit.

Another yard fire was put out Sunday afternoon on North 11th Avenue between Elm and Live Oak streets.
