A competition was held for children in the Best Dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl. Winners were Kimberly Minyard as cowgirl and Wade Minyard as cowboy contests.
The winners for the business competitions were also announced. Best Dressed Business was Lifespan Counseling and Best Decorated was Loans Plus. Best Overall was Bremar’s Variety Depot.
Also introduced at the event were the contestants for the princess and queen positions of the Durant Round-Up Club Annual Rodeo. They were Jaelin Lyday, who was competing for princess, and Tina Pedan and Jordan Bacon for queen. Heather Childs, who is also competing for queen, was unable to attend the event.
Chuck Varner, president of the Round-Up Club, briefly spoke to those present.
“It is getting bigger and better every year,” Varner said about the annual event.
He said there is going to be a lot going on this weekend, including a parade, rodeo and rodeo princess and queen candidates.
After thanking various people, Varner discussed various events at the rodeo, such as three horsemen loading, which is a timed event.
There will also be a competition between the Durant Police and Fire Departments to milk wild cows. It will definitely be something to watch, he said.
“I do hope you all come out,” Varner said.
