Durant police arrested two juveniles for suspicion of committing a slew of automobile burglaries.

Between 11 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, officers took eight automobile burglary reports. A citizen in the 100 block of North Fourth Avenue later flagged down Patrolman Brandon Laxton and said he caught two young males in his vehicle and told them to leave.

Laxton and Master Police Officer Rocky McDaniel found the juveniles, ages 16 and 17, and took them into custody. According to police, they admitted to the burglaries and officers recovered the stolen items at a residence on North Fourth and Pine Street.

Police released the juveniles to their parents. Later that afternoon, police were notified of two more automobile burglaries, plus a residential burglary. One of the same suspects was detained and his guardian told police she cannot control him, according to the report. Police contacted juvenile services, but no space was available, so he was again released to his guardian.

All of the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked, according to police.

Patrolman Michael Shufeldt investigated a burglary Monday on Waldron Drive. A chain was cut and then the burglar(s) crawled through a hole in the side of a building and then opened a bay door. According to the report, a forklift owned by the business was used to load a welder onto a truck or trailer.

During a recent two-day period, police conducted several vehicle safety checkpoints and made contact with more than 90 drivers. These checkpoints resulted in 15 citations being issued, three arrests on outstanding warrants, six for marijuana possession and one for public intoxication and obstructing an officer.

Since Nov. 5, 32 people have been arrested by police. These include: Marijuana possession, nine; public intoxication, seven; DUI, three; warrants, 10; domestic abuse, one; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one and one for carrying a concealed firearm.

A call about a man who locked himself in a convenience store bathroom led to the seizure of seven-and-half grams of methamphetamine. Police responded at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday to the Lucky Stop at Washington and Evergreen Street about a man who locked himself in the bathroom and said someone was after him.

When Lt. Andy Navid arrived, he found the man, who was now outside leaning into the passenger window of a vehicle. According to the report, the man said he did not need the police anymore. He appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic and Navid searched him.

The report stated that the man had a mini baggie containing a small amount of a white, powdery substance. A female passenger had a canvas container she said was given to her by the suspect and inside it were baggies of a crystal-like substance.

The man was arrested for methamphetamine possession and the passengers were released.
