Services for Gladys Katherine Elrod, of Durant, who died Nov. 17, 2009, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma, Durant, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Higland Cemetery Chapel, Durant. Jerry Fisher will officiate.

Gladys was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Alba Texas, to George Washington Whitworth and Alice Elizabeth (Butler) Whitworth. She married Levi Preston Elrod on Nov. 20, 1937.

Mrs. Elrod was a member of the First Baptist Church of Durant and later attended the Northwest Church of Christ. In 1937, she was a hairdresser. In the 1940s, she and her husband operated the Elrod General Grocery Store on South Second for 37 years. She loved to garden, sew and quilt, and anything she could do with her hands. She loved her grandchildren and thought they were special.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Odis Whitworth and sister Lew Edythe Park.

She is survived by her son Larri Elrod and wife Phyllis, Durant; grandson Jeffrey Elrod and Gina, Houston, Texas; granddaughter Lynnette Hudson and husband Joel, Tulsa; great-grandchildren Donald Elrod, Logan Hoag and Jacob Elrod of Houston, Texas, and Emilee Hudson, Levi Hudson and Hannah Hudson of Tulsa; and sister-in-law Pauline (Pittman) Whitworth.

Jeff Elrod, Joel Hudson, Charles Son and Ernest Son are honorary pallbearers.

Family hour will be held Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
