Police confiscated 31 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop Sunday night.

At approximately 9:55 p.m., Sgt. Jesse Petty pulled over a Ford Mustang with Texas plates for crossing left of center.

According to a Durant Police report, Petty suspected that drug use was involved after observing several indicators. The narcotic K-9 was used on the vehicle and alerted Petty to the presence of narcotics.

Nothing was found inside the vehicle, according to the report, but the passenger had several small zip-it baggies in his front pocket containing three grams of a white powdery substance. Petty then noticed a small portion of a plastic sack sticking from the passenger’s pants. Inside the bag was 28 grams of a crystal substance. He also found two glass pipes in his coat pocket. Both substances tested positive for methamphetamine.

Ramon Almarez-Vazquez was arrested for trafficking of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In other unrelated news, John Skaggs confessed to several acts of child molestation.

At approximately 6:31 p.m. Saturday, Skaggs came to the Durant Police Department and stated that he had “found God” about six months ago and needed to confess his crime to the authorities, according to the report. He stated that, over a four-year period, he molested seven children between the ages of 1-5 years of age.

Durant investigators, with assistance from the district attorney’s office, are conducting a investigation.

According to the report, four of the victims live in Durant and the remaining victims are in other jurisdictions.

Skaggs was arrested and booked into the Bryan County Jail.
