DURANT — It didn’t take Jenks long to end Durant’s defensive streak of scoreless innings on the way to an 11-0 run-rule Friday night, and the Lions couldn’t bounce back Saturday. Durant (2-2) dropped the final game of the First United Bank/Choctaw Nation Resort First Pitch Festival, 11-0, against Edmond Santa Fe. Durant opened with 6-0 and 8-0 wins Thursday over Noble and Bonham, respectively.

Durant collected just three hits against Santa Fe, with designated hitter Kevin Williams leading the way going 2-for-2. Keaton Webb added the only other hit, batting 1-for-1 with a double.

Brandon Bennett fell to 1-1 on the season after working through four tough innings. He was spelled by Travis Smith in the fifth.

“Bennett pitched his tail off. Of 11 of their runs, I only think about three of those were earned,” said Durant coach Zach Crabtree. “I thought we’d have to play the first two games pretty well to win, and I knew the last two wouldn’t be easy.

“Jenks and Santa Fe are no slouches.”

Jenks 11, Durant 0

Jenks managed to push across one run in the first inning of Saturday’s game. Matt Shoemaker was hit by a pitch with one out and swiped second before moving to third on an outfield error. Kyle Kirkpatrick singled home the run before a 6-4-3 double play ended the inning.

Trojans’ starter Lucas Bersin retired the top of the Durant lineup in order in the bottom of the opening inning, and he got plenty of breathing room from his offense in the second.

Brad Fisher led off the second with a single but was nabbed stealing by Durant catcher Keaton Webb. The Lions troubles started with consecutive walks to the bottom of the Jenks lineup.

The ball left the infield only once in the next six plate appearances, but a couple of errors and infield singles later and the Trojans had built a 7-0 lead entering the bottom of the second.

The Lions got their first hit on an infield single by Derrick Haworth. He also provided Durant with its best change to score. He moved to second on a wild pitch before a hard liner to right field by Colby Hicks. Haworth got a late start on Hicks single and the Lions stayed stranded with runners at the corners.

The Trojans added four more runs in the top of the third inning with most of the offense provided by a two-run triple from Kirkpatrick.

Josh Brown and Webb drew walks in the third, but could not come up with any more hits the rest of the game.

Daylan Green started and worked three innings in the loss for the Lions. Colby Hicks tossed a scoreless fourth inning with a strikeout in relief.

Durant 8, Bonham 0

Robert Ragle fanned 11 in a no-hitter that was shortened to five innings with a run rule. Brown led the offense, batting 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Webb was 3-for-3, which led to two runs scored by courtesy runner Jase Hammock.

Terry Gaskey and Ruben Ramos were each 1-for-2, while Haworth and Kevin Williams were each 1-for-3.

Durant 6, Noble 0

Brandon Bennett allowed just one hit and fanned four in five innings of work. Travis Smith closed out the game with two more scoreless innings, along with two strikeouts.

Hammock led Durant with two runs as a courtesy runner for Webb, while Haworth, Hendley, Hicks and Gaskey also scored runs. Webb led the offense batting 3-3, while Haworth was 2-for-2.

Ramos was 1-for-1 and drew a pair of walks, while Hendley, Brown, Hicks and Gaskey also collected hits.
