One of the longest-tenured basketball coaches at any one area school, Barry Hudson, will not resume that position for the next season. Hudson was the head basketball coach for the Durant Lady Lions over the last five seasons, but the position was posted as a job opening on the Durant Independent School District’s web-site this morning.
The Lady Lions were state semifinalists two years ago, and last season finished 6-16 with a first-round exit in the Class 5A playoffs.
Reasons for the opening were unknown at press-time as to whether the position was resigned or removed. Durant Superintendent Dr. Jason Simeroth was in meetings this morning and unavailable for immediate comments.
I would say a "kiss" is far enough, and if it has gone farther then hopefully the right people come forward with the right evidence to protect people from him.
My heart goes out to those victims, but to this teacher as well as I can't imagine what it would be like for him to face his wife and family assuming he has kids? So many people get hurt in a situation like this!
I think you were right on numbers two and three. I know there are others and he has gone farther than a kiss. We have to wait and see what the powers that be do when school is out and the victims feels safe enough to talk.
This might sound a bit off the wall, but the way I see it one of three situations is playing out. One, the girls are playing this up and there is nothing wrong going on. Two, he is testing the waters for a receptive student but was brought to attention before being successful. Three, there are other victims with evidence that could put him away.
Given the lack of evidence but the number of accusations I'm inclined to believe number 2. And if that is the case, as sad is it is to say there really isn't much that can be done unless he crosses the line into criminal instead of inappropriate and leaves behind enough evidence.
There is obviously more to this story than is getting out. Still my biggest question is, is he still teaching? Will my daughter be safe at DHS next year? At this point if he is teaching I doubt I would let her attend one of his classes.
