Immediately following the conclusion of the first game, the umpire ruled that one of the runner’s didn’t touch the plate on Creger’s home run. It took a run off the board but didn’t remove any of the sting.
SE opened with four runs in the first inning, after the bases were loaded with a hit batter and two walks. Jennifer Morales singled home a run, Cassy Tice plated another on a fielder’s choice and Mandi Worthington brought home two with a two-out double.
Three hits and two errors helped SWOSU cut it with two in the first, and they tied it with runs in the second and fifth inning.
The Storm’s Courtney Walters belted a two-run home run in the fifth to regain the lead, but SWOSU tied it in the bottom with three hits and another Storm error.
The seventh went scoreless, and SE was retired in order in the eighth before the granny was given up with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.
Morales was 2-for-4 with the only multiple-hit game for the Storm. Ashley Smith took the loss in the circle, dropping her to 12-11 on the season.
In the second game, Amanda Tanner (10-11) scattered seven hits and walked only one with three strikeouts to record the win.
Southwestern’s lone run came after two hits in the first inning. After a scoreless second, SE took the lead with three runs in the third. Morales hit a two-run triple and scored on a single by Tice.
Tice doubled for an RBI in the fifth, and SE padded it with three more runs in the sixth. Ryan Allen and Erika Bernal had RBI-singles and another run came through on an outfielder’s error.
Tice, Bernal and Allen collected to hits each, while Tice and Morales each drove in a pair.
SE will end the regular season with away and home doubleheaders against rival Central Oklahoma. The Storm travels to Edmond Tuesday, and returns home the following Saturday for the regular-season finale. Senior Day acknowledgments will precede the 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
