The primary election began in Bryan County today. At precinct 27, more than a thousand people are estimated to get out and hit the polls.

Voting polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. said Linda Fahrendorf, Bryan County Election Board, secretary.

Fahrendorf and the election board plan for a heavy voting turnout this year. The Bryan County Election Board will be on site to assist voters in finding their correct voting precinct.

Voters in the Mead area have been instructed to vote at the Mead Baptist Church on 3121 S. Church St.

Voters in precinct 8, located at the Bryan County Health Department, began their poll day with 24 voters hitting the polls by 8:30 a.m.

Billie Rogers, Precinct 8 Inspector, predicts that there will be more than 300 voters turning out in the precinct today.

Among the other heavy polling areas were Precinct 27, located at the Seventh Adventist Church, where 32 voters had hit the polls by 8:40 a.m.

Jonnie McClendon, Precinct 27 Inspector, estimated that 1,000 people will vote in today’s primary election at that precinct. McClendon has been with the election board for over 20 years.

Voters in precinct 28 began today’s polling with 39 voters. Susan Hutter, Precinct 28 Inspector, predicted around 150-175 people will vote in the Silo area voting today.

Absentee voting closed Monday night with 379 voters hitting the polls early.

Local election results will published tonight on the Democrat website, durantdemocrat.com.
