That pretty much sums up a frustrating football season for coach Ray Richards’ Savage Storm.

Third game of the season: Southeastern snapped the ball 106 times to only 45 for the opponent.

Say that slowly and see if it doesn’t tangle your tongue.

The Storm rushed for 291 yards and allowed just 79. The Storm passed for 282 yards and allowed 269.

Time of possession: Storm 43.05 minutes – opponent 16:55 minutes.

Given those numbers, the Storm spanks fanny every time, right? Final score: Storm 20, Henderson State 56.

SOUTHEASTERN is 1-4 overall and 0-4 in Great American Conference competition.

Three of the four losses were by a total of 17 points. The Storm lost by seven points (31-24) to Southern Arkansas in the home opener. Southeastern led by 14 points with 5:26 left in the third period.

Ouachita Baptist, No. 12 in the nation at that time, was the homecoming opponent and escaped Paul Laird Field by a field goal (27-24). The Storm was ahead 24-20 with 14:16 to play in the fourth quarter.

Saturday last at Arkansas Tech was more of the same. Southeastern was on the sweet side of a seemingly comfortable 31-14 score, a 17-point edge for the good guys, with 12:18 left in the game.

SE had more total offense in two of those three losses, trailing only Ouachita Baptist and that by just 25 yards, 390-365

How about these lying figures? Southeastern logged 573 yards of total offense to only 348 for – Henderson State.

And you thought being president was a tough job.

THE LATEST GAC standings show Henderson State leading the pack at 6-0 overall, 4-0 where it counts.

Harding (5-0, 3-0) is second with Ouachita Baptist (5-0, 3-0) third.

Southern Arkansas (4-1, 3-1) is in fourth place.

Arkansas Tech and East Central are next at 3-3 and 1-2 each, Southwestern is 1-4 and 1-3, Southeastern 1-4 and 0-4 and Arkansas-Monticello 1-5 and 0-4.

Northwestern and Southern Nazarene are each 0-6 overall and ineligible for the conference championship this year.

The GAC is one of only four DII conferences to have three ranked teams in the AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Tigers of Ouachita Baptist are still ranked No. 11 and the Reddies of Henderson State have climbed to No. 12.

The Bisons of Harding University have made it into the poll at No. 23.

THE STORM WILL be looking for at least one more score and one more stop with Saturday’s renewal of a long-standing rivalry in Alva.

Southeastern will visit the Northwestern Rangers for a 3 p.m. kickoff with both teams struggling with the win column.

Northwestern is winless in six games and the Storm is highly frustrated in five.

The numbers favor the Storm against the Rangers, but we already know numbers lie — or at least highly misrepresent.

The Rangers average 12.3 points per game and allow 49.5. The Storm average 27.4 points per game and allow 33.

So why play the game? Because, that’s why.

SOUTHEASTERN QUARTERBACK Jercolby Bradley is sixth in the GAC passing statistics with an average of 196.8 yards per game and Northwestern’s Kyle Jech is fifth at 242.5 ypg.

Kyle is the nephew of former Savage star baseballer Darcy Jech.

SE has two rushers in the top five with Bradley third at 87.4 yards per game and Ladarius Abrams fifth at 69.8 ypg.

Abrams is coming off a monster effort against Arkansas Tech that netted 176 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries for a nifty 9.8 yards per carry. Bradley (117) and Jech (112.3) are eighth and ninth, respectively, in pass efficiency.

Bradley (284.2) is third in total offense and Jech (232) is sixth.

VOLLEYBALL IS ON the road for a three-game swing starting this weekend.

Southeastern will visit Southern Arkansas Friday, Arkansas-Monticello Saturday and Southwestern Oklahoma Tuesday.

Coach Jenn King’s club is 2-18 after a loss to Central Oklahoma in Bloomer Sullivan Gym Tuesday night.

The puzzle outline is here, but the individual pieces haven’t yet slipped into place. Some play well this game, some play well that game.

The goal, of course, is to have all playing well in every game.

The goal is also world peace. Both are difficult to achieve.

Southeastern will have a three-game home stand October 20-23-25 against Ouachita Baptist, Arkansas-Fort Smith and East Central.
