Girls:

SILO – Kenslie Stanley scored 20 points on Thursday night as the Silo Lady Rebels defeated the Rock Creek Lady Mustangs 58-50 in overtime. The Lady Mustangs made a ten-point deficit disappear in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but were outscored 10-2 in the extra four minutes.

“Even though it went into overtime, I thought we still did a good job and won the game,” said Silo coach Dax Simon. “We could have folded but we stood our ground and played well.”

The Lady Rebels (3-3) led 43-33 heading into the fourth quarter. Adree Young gave the Lady Mustangs a spark with a three-pointer to cut the lead to single-digits.

Julie Layton went to the line with a chance to tie the game with less than thirty seconds remaining. Layton missed both free-throws but Teigan Munson snagged the rebound and made a nice dish to Shaina Holland who scored to make it 48-48.

The Lady Rebels had seventeen seconds left on the clock but were unable to score. Stanley missed a three-pointer from the corner as time ran out.

The Lady Mustangs (2-1) outscored Silo 15-5 in the fourth quarter and Young scored eight of her fifteen points.

The Lady Mustangs had trouble putting the ball through the hoop in overtime and couldn’t pull off the victory. “I thought we played great,” said Rock Creek coach Clyde Young. “We made a surge there at the end and I told the girls to just chip away a little each quarter.”

Young led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 15 points and Holland also scored in double figures with 12 points. Harlie Heflin scored 5 points and Devyn Johnson finished with 9 points.

“I thought our younger players did great tonight,” said Young. “This is only our third game so I think we will continue to get better.”

Riley Newton scored 12 points for the Lady Rebels and Rachel Grider chipped in 10 points.

Both teams have some time off before their next game. The Lady Mustangs will take on the Caddo Lady Bruins at home on November 27. The Lady Rebels will also play Caddo in their next game on November 30.

Boys:

The Silo Rebels completed the sweep on Thursday night with a 60-31 victory over the Rock Creek Mustangs. Leonard Sandler scored 18 points to lead the Rebels in scoring. Andrew Bolin finished with 8 points and Lance House, Hunter Jackson, and Tanner Clark each scored 6 points.

“I still think we need to work on our chemistry and our shooting needs to improve,” said Simon after the game. “But Leonard had a good game and he has been playing like that all year for us so far.”

The Rebels (5-0) led 11-5 after a low-scoring first quarter. Sandler scored nine points in the second quarter as the Rebels took a 23-10 lead into the locker room.

The Rebels continued to pull away in the second half and built up a 23-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

David Dill led the Mustangs in scoring with 10 points. Bronson Burns finished with 8 points and Ethan Mitchell scored 5 points.

“We are a little inexperienced this year and it is taking time for us to adjust to this new system,” said Rock Creek coach Rob Frederick. “We have to limit our turnovers and block out better. I thought our young guys played well at the end and I told them to fight back and to not quit.”

The Mustangs now have a 1-2 regular season record and will take on the Caddo Bruins on November 27. The next game for the Rebels will be on November 30 against Caddo.
