Girls:

BOKCHITO – The Rock Creek Lady Mustangs lost a 46-45 heartbreaker to the visiting Rattan Lady Rams on Thursday night despite a terrific second half effort. The Lady Mustangs (2-3) trailed by as many as eighteen points in the third quarter but were able to trim the Rattan lead down to one after a huge three-pointer from Adree Young late in the fourth quarter to make it 44-43. After two Rattan free-throws, the Lady Mustangs had a chance to tie the game with less than ten seconds remaining. Devyn Johnson scored a quick bucket on an in-bounds pass to make it a one-point game but time expired before Rock Creek could regain possession.

“I thought that we came out and executed in the second half,” said Rock Creek coach Clyde Young. “We put some pressure on them and were able to cause a few turnovers.” Shaina Holland led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with fourteen points including eight points in the third quarter. Young finished with eleven points; Johnson scored nine points; Harlie Heflin scored eight points; and Julie Layton scored three to round out the scoring for Rock Creek. After a slow start, the Lady Mustangs closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 9-6 lead. The Lady Ram shooters began to heat up in the second quarter and all of their 21 first half points came from beyond the three-point line.

The Lady Rams continued to hit shots in the third quarter but an 11-0 run put the Lady Mustangs back in the game. Quick hands on the defensive end fueled the Rock Creek comeback. “I just told the girls to stay on them and contest every shot,” said Young.

The Lady Mustangs outscored Rattan 16-9 in the fourth quarter but fell short in the final minutes. The Lady Mustangs will be staying at home for their next contest on December 4 against Ft. Towson. They will also host the Rock Creek Tournament next week which begins on December 6.

Boys:

The Rock Creek Mustangs fell to the Rattan Rams 51-27 in the second game of the evening. David Dill led the Mustangs in scoring with nine points and Toby McIntire finished with seven. After the game, Rock Creek coach Rob Frederick was proud of the performance of his players. “I thought we executed the best we have all season, especially in the first half,” said Frederick. “Our defensive rotations were good and we took care of the ball.” The Mustangs looked sharp in the first quarter as both teams traded buckets in the early minutes. The Rams closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the game at fourteen. The Rams played solid defense in the second quarter and outscored the Mustangs 13-1 to take a 27-15 lead at halftime. After a low-scoring third quarter, the Rams padded their lead in the fourth en route to the victory. Bronson Burns scored four points; Cameron Hammond and Nash Hestily scored two points apiece; and Austin McCann finished with three points to round out the scoring for Rock Creek. The loss gives the Mustangs a 1-4 regular season record. Rock Creek will square off against Ft. Towson at home on December 4 and then host the Rock Creek Tournament next weekend.
